Understanding aircrete

What is Aircrete?

The material

Lightweight, high-performance masonry

Aircrete is a lightweight, high-performance masonry material that combines strength and durability with excellent thermal and fire performance. Its lower density makes it easy to cut, shape and install, helping improve construction efficiency across a wide range of applications, including walls, floors and foundations.

How it's made

Autoclaved Aerated Concrete

Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) is the technical name for aircrete. It is made from cement, lime, water, sand or pulverised fuel ash, and a small amount of aluminium powder. The reaction creates millions of tiny air pockets that give aircrete its lightweight structure and thermal properties.

The material is then cured using high-pressure steam in an autoclave, creating a strong, stable and consistent masonry product.

Why aircrete?

Lightweight

Easy to cut, handle and install on site.

Thermal performance

Helps support energy-efficient building design.

Fire resistance

Non-combustible aircrete provides excellent fire performance.

Acoustic performance
