Why Aircrete is a Sustainable Choice

The material

Low carbon, by design

Aircrete can help reduce embodied and operational carbon across a building's lifecycle. Its lightweight composition reduces transport impacts, while its thermal performance helps lower energy demand in use. With up to 70% recycled content and a design life exceeding 100 years, aircrete provides a durable solution for long-term building performance.

The numbers that matter

Up to 70%

Recycled content

Recycled material used in aircrete production.

100+ years

Design life

A durable material designed to last for the lifetime of the building.

100% recyclable

Production waste

Production waste can be recycled back into the manufacturing process.

How it's made

Manufacturing with a lighter footprint

H+H's UK manufacturing facilities at Borough Green and Pollington operate using 100% renewable electricity. Onsite wind generation, energy monitoring, water recycling and rainwater harvesting are among the measures helping to reduce the environmental impact of aircrete production. Hydrogen-ready boilers also support the transition towards lower-carbon energy sources.

Whole-life carbon

Transparent EPD data

Environmental impacts are independently reported across manufacture (A1–A3), end-of-life (C) and reuse/recycling (D).

Natural re-carbonation

More than 50% of upfront embodied carbon is recaptured through natural carbonation during the building's life.

End-of-life recycling

Aircrete can be recycled as aggregate at the end of its useful life, helping keep material out of landfill.

Sourcing & circularity

Responsible from raw material to reuse

H+H considers environmental impact beyond its own manufacturing operations. Suppliers are assessed on ESG performance, while raw materials are responsibly sourced and opportunities to reduce emissions are pursued across the value chain. Waste reduction, material recovery and end-of-life recycling also help keep resources in use for longer and support a more circular construction sector.

Product transparency

Environmental Product Declarations

H+H Environmental Product Declarations provide independently verified information on the environmental impact of aircrete products, giving designers and specifiers transparent data to support whole-life carbon assessment and informed material selection.
